Charlotte 10 at Salisbury 14

Van Egger's hot play of late was somewhat cooled down by the Charlotte defense.  He managed 14 completions on 29 attempts for 148yds.  Not the big games we've seen the past couple of weeks.  But Salisbury got just what they needed from HB David Harley who ran up 192yds on 19 carries.  For all the talk of other backs in the league very little has been written about Harley who now leads the league in rushing.  He has yet to run for a TD this season, but he has been picking up yards in big chunks.  In this game for example he had four carries for 20yds or more.  The big play from Harley has been a big reason for Salisbury's success this year and he consistently does it every week.  Salisbury goes to Asheville next week in what should be a hard fought game.

Retired Charlotte TE Tim Mtchell played in many a close game against the Popes.  Mitchell is the biggest star in Charlotte's near past and he was on the sidelines today watching the player he feels is the best TE the league has ever seen Jose Wakeman of Salisbury.  "Since day one this guy has been nothing but a solid performer for Salisbury.  He's been asked to play many roles on their offense and he's always done it."  But Mitchell was quick to point out that he was happy to see Cash Johnson stepping up his play for Charlotte with 9 receptions for 66yds and a TD.  "Charlotte football doesn't change it's a simple strategy.  We like close hard fought games.  We'd prefer to hit someone than do it the easy way.  I'm glad to see Cash starting to embrace this because you need a good dependable TE in this offense to make it successful."  QB Royce Scott continues to improve week to week going 24/38 for 194yds with 1TD and HB Kelvin Ingram continued his good season with 49yds on 13 carries.  Charlotte's pass defense continues to play well with CB Roderick Anderson leading the way today with 11 tackles and 2 knockdowns.  This would have been a huge win for Charlotte but as it is they slip a game behind Gastonia and Greensboro in the race for the playoffs.  Next week they host Gastonia in what has to be the game of the week.
