Greensboro was spectacularly awful in the first half of this game, but Winston-Salem could only manage nine points and so opened themselves up to a second half Greensboro surge and a loss. When Chad Webb went out injured David Young came in and sparked the Patriots offense to put together the only drive they needed to clinch the win.

Gastonia completely dominated this game, and yet they almost lost it. Their two lines completely ovewhelmed Asheville. Near the end Gastonia took the ball over at their own 4 with just over 3 minutes left. Their starting halfback had been knocked out of the game and Todd Procter was in. They ran out the clock. Literally ran out the clock going to Procter time and again, and time and again he had huge holes opened up by his offensive line. How this game was close I still don't understand.
