ROCKY MOUNT--The Leafs' playoff chase took a devestating blow yesterday, as
the visiting Wilson Tobs posted a fall-from-ahead, come-from-behind upset.
"A great win for the Tobs on the road against a big rival," an emotionally
exhausted Matthew Vaughn said after the game. (In the pressbox during the
tumultous fourth quarter, the famously weak-stomached Tobs owner had
complained of nausia.) "It helps in such a disappointing season." ...

A great win for the Tobs on the road against a big rival it helps in such a disappointing season. This is a huge loss for the Leafs who were trying to keep pace with the Eagles, but this loss knocks the Leafs out of the playoff race.

An easy win for the Eagles who dominated this game, especially on defense. The Twins are a better team than they were last season, but they were unable to matchup against the Eagles who simply have more talent spread around. If Kinston and Charlotte hold on to win their Divisions that should make a tough tough playoff game.

ASHEVILLE--The Greensboro Patriots made long trip west to Asheville today, shut out the Tourists 17-0 and claimed a half-game advantage over Durham and Winston-Salem in the hotly contested Piedmont Division second-place race.
"We're No. 2!" said victorious Greensboro signal-caller Derrick Smith. "All the haters are going to say we should be 6-6 and competing for the playoffs. All I know is we won today, and, for the moment, we're in second place alone. It feels good." ...
Big plays made the difference in this one. Greensboro got big plays on defense and offense. Asheville on the other hand got no big plays. Even near the end when it looked like they would have a long punt return to setup a score, it was called back on a penalty. That's just the way the game went, and the way the whole season has gone for the Tourists. The Patriots are happy with the win, but their season has already been a bust once again playing below expectations.

The Twins played well, but the Charlotte defense was simply too much for them dominating the second half of the game. The Twins defense wore down and the Charlotte offense put up some good numbers netting 343 total yards.
