Winston-Salem 13 at Salisbury 23
A bit of sloppy play by the Popes helped keep the Twins in this game late into the 4th quarter. This is the best the Twins have looked all season sad that it included 3 turnovers. But they also forced 3 turnovers and were able to take advantage of their opportunities to score and stay close. In the end though the Popes defense did their job and won the game for the Popes.

Durham 3 at Kinston 13
The Kinston defense overwhelmed the Bulls for an easy win. Marion Sorenson continues to be one of the most consistent, if not exciting, quarterbacks in the league. But it's the defense that makes Kinston a competitor for the division title year after year. Durham meanwhile is still trying to get their starting line up set and figure out a way to win games. They got another good performance from James Clark and Charles Kissane didn't do too bad with the amount of pressure he was under. Still the Bulls were never close to being in this game and they have a long ways to go.

Wilson 10 at Asheville 6
Plenty of blown opportunities almost cost the Tobs this game, but they held on to win despite their struggling offense. Their defense on the other hand played a great game especially their line. Asheville definitely played better with Erik Waters but they have to start getting the ball downfield and get better play from their defense if they hope to win a game this season. They too blew opportunities that could have gotten them a big win and a big upset.

Charlotte 10 at Gastonia 30
The Pirates excellent defense set the stage for a big 4th quarter and an easy win. Harold Brooks struggled, but kept coming back and at the end of the day had a very good game with a huge contribution from Robert Lee. Charlotte's offense really struggled as they have all season, and in the end it was too much for their defense to keep Gastonia in check. Also it should be noted what a game Ian Black had. Charlotte has some injuries on the offensive line, but that still doesn't account for the amount of pressure Black was able to put on Royce Scott.

Burlington 28 at Wilson 7
An easy win for the Bees who dominated this game from start to finish with
their defense and their passing game. The Burlington defensive line
dominated this game with constant pressure on the ball. When the Bees
offense was on the field they were dominated by Thaddeus Schlotter. It's a
rough loss for the Tobs who felt they were a better team than last season,
but got blown out this time around. They lost Jeff Gray for much of the
first half and without Ken Haslip their running game struggled.

Charlotte 13 at Rocky Mount 7
Charlotte dominated the first three quarters of this game, but it almost
wasn't enough. They got a real scare in the 4th. Offensively they
struggled to protect Royce Scott the entire game, and defensively they
struggled to put pressure on Mike Ramsey. But still their defense was
terrific and brought them to a 3-0 record. This is a disappointing loss for
the Leafs. Mike Ramsey continues to play well and their offensive line did
a great job of giving him time. They did not do so well with the running
game and penalties really cost them.

Gastonia 17 at Asheville 8
The Pirates are looking very good for another run at the playoffs. They
have completely dominated their last two opponents. They did suffer a major
injury in this game when James Carter was carried off the field on a
stretcher. But their defense has looked great. Asheville also suffered an
injury when starting quarterback Pierre Taylor went down. Veteran Erik
Waters came in off the bench and rallied the Tourists to their only
touchdown. It will be hard for the coaches to keep Waters from starting
their next game. He's a huge fan favorite and he looked much better suited
to be starting than Taylor who has struggled all season to find a rhythm.

Greensboro 17 at Winston-Salem 14
The Twins fairly dominated this game, but couldn't come up with the win. Blown opportunities and poor special teams play sealed their fate. This is a good win for the Patriots who didn't really play all that well. To play poorly and come away with the win is always a big plus. This gets Greensboro to 2-1 before traveling to Burlington. The Twins have to travel to Salisbury next week so they will more than likely fall to 0-4. Robert Walker has been down this road before.

Raleigh 10 at Kinston 16
The
Kinston offense played much better this week and their defense was superb. Jon Query was under constant pressure and of course Raleigh had no running game. This setup
Kinston for their first win of the season and hopefully will boos their offense to play better in weeks to come. They got a very solid game out of Bernie Hall.
