Charlotte 3 at Raleigh 10
Raleigh's offense was able to capitalize on two Royce Scott interceptions for 10 points, and that was enough as the Capitals defense held Charlotte at bay time and again. Every time Royce Scott would get the Charlotte offense moving and it looked like a scoring drive was in the works, the Raleigh defense would step up and shut things down. Charlotte was only able to get in field goal range twice and only managed to hit one of them. Meanwhile Raleigh struggled to do anything against the great Charlotte defense, but when they had opportunities they took them and put points on the board. There were two turnovers in the game and both lead to Raleigh points, their only points of the game.
This makes the wild card race between Gastonia and Charlotte very interesting indeed. Charlotte ends their season at Burlington and then at home against Salisbury. It is not likely they will win either and so this game was a must win for the Clippers. Gastonia hosts Salisbury next week then finish at Asheville. It is very likely the two teams will finish the season with 7-5 records and 3-3 in the division.

Kinston 9 at Rocky Mount 7
I guess you could say Darren Smelt won this one when he landed a punt late in the game at the one yard line leading to a Scott Brackenbury go ahead safety with two minutes left in the game. It was an ugly win for Kinston but a very important win. Their defense continues to be the key to their success. Both Bernie Hall and Marion Sorenson struggled in this game, but their defense was solid. When given an opportunity late in the game to make something happen, they did and won the game.

Wilson 23 at Winston-Salem 7
The Wilson defense and Ken Haslip combined to wear down the Twins for a convincing win. Haslip was consistent throughout the game as was the Tobs defense. The only slip up came when Haslip fumbled deep in his own territory to setup the only Twins score.
This was a big win for the Tobs continuing with their new starting quarterback Jeff Gray and another tough loss for the Twins who continue to play tough but lose.

Durham 7 at Gastonia 37
A 43yd kick return by Joshua Stetson started the game off for Gastonia. Three plays later on a third and 10 James Carter broke around the right side for a 45yd touchdown and set the stage for the rest of the game. On Durham's first possession Charles Kissane was stripped of the ball setting up the first of Olav Flores two touchdowns. The Gastonia defense would maintain their dominance the entire game allowing only 108 net yards.
Durham who was playing for the wild card spot looked awful. Their only offense came late in the game and their defense was dreadful getting completely bullied by Gastonia's offense. Durham could potentially play spoiler next week for the Tobs, and Gastonia will continue to play for the wild card spot hosting Salisbury next week.

Asheville 16 at Wilson 28
Wilson made a big change on offense this week going with backup quarterback Jeff Gray. Their running game has been great, their defense has been solid, but their passing game has struggled and coaches hoped that a change at quarterback would help. They also felt that they could beat Asheville without too much problem. Well Gray did give them a boost it seems at quarterback, but Asheville also gave them a game. Wilson now moves to within a game of Kinston. Both teams have a pretty easy schedule to close out though Kinston has it a bit easier playing Rocky Mount twice and Asheville. The Tourists meanwhile keep trying to get their footing, but can't seem to put a complete game together. They almost upset Charlotte last week and their offense seems to be coming around. Now if they can only get their defense to step up they could play spoiler when they host Kinston in week 11 and then Gastonia in week 12.

Gastonia 21 at Kinston 11
Kinston is known for two things. A very boring, no nonsense offense and a tough, brutal defense. They rely on their defense to win games for them giving up only 34 points in their 5 game winning streak. But today they ran into a Gastonia offense firing on all cylinders. It has taken a full season for Gastonia's offense to look as good as everyone believes them to be, but they looked it today. Harold Brooks was a bit shaky throwing two interceptions, but with a solid running game and defense behind him he was free to attack and take risks so the interceptions weren't necessarily a bad sign. All season he's been so reserved as has the offense, today they seemed to explode. This win keeps Gastonia in the hunt for a playoff spot and puts Kinston on shaky ground in the Coastal Division.

Rocky Mount 0 at Greensboro 11
Rocky Mount continues their flaky ways while Greensboro got back to their winning ways grabbing their 3rd win in 4 games. Jason Fisher had a solid game while Jon Query struggled for Rocky Mount. This game though was all about defense and the Greensboro defense was able to force turnovers and cause problems that the Leafs defense could not. Despite their win the Patriots were very nearly eliminated from the playoffs with Charlotte's win. They will have to win the Piedmont Division now to make the playoffs.

Winston-Salem 6 at Charlotte 9
With just over 3 minutes left in the game and the score tied at 6, Stephen Caufield threw an interception returned by Joseph Wong 25yds to setup the game winning field goal. It was not a good day for Caufield, but the Twins surprised everyone by playing Charlotte so tight. Their defense managed to control Charlotte for most of the game only giving up one big play, a 62yd TD pass from Royce Scott to TE Maxwell Mason. No matter how ugly it's a big win for Charlotte taking them to 7-2 and one step closer to clinching their fifth playoff trip with their best team.
