Raleigh seemed to have this game under control, but then a critical interception thrown by Marcus Musson, a missed field goal, and some weak defense gave the win away. Kinston now has a 2 game lead in the division and seemed to be the only team playing consistent ball. Consistency is the key word here. Marcus Musson's inconsistency as the season has worn on led Raleigh to turn to the run today and they got great results from Jerry Willis, but in the end it wasn't enough as Jon Query put together a solid performance and Musson made his usual fatal error late in the game.

To consistently win close games in football you have to be lucky and play mistake free ball. Wilson has won their share of tight games this year, but they have lost more and so they watch their chances of winning the division slipping away with a critical loss in overtime. Sloppy special teams play and poor decision making by Derrick Smith seemed to doom their chances and they came out in overtime having given up the game. For Kinston it was really a game where their stars stepped up. A very consistent game from Marion Sorenson and solid pressure from Pat Mlot in the end made the difference in this game.

The Twins surprised everyone this week by cutting quarterback Darrell Sparks, picking up an unkown to fill his slot, then naming Stephen Caufield as their starter for the week 8 game at Durham. They then further surprised everyone by going in to Durham and completely dominating the game from start to finish. Whatever momentum Durham had gained from their shocking victory over Burlington last week is now lost. Stephen Caufield played an amazing game and will be looking to remain the starter, but with the Twins sitting at 2-6 they may be likelier to try out their two untested quarterbacks before seasons end.

A blocked PAT made the difference in this sloppy but entertaining game. Charlotte went ahead for good on a 59yd TD pass from Royce Scott to Norman Rogge with 7:39 left in the game. From there it was the tough Charlotte defense that kept Asheville from getting a shot at the win. Asheville played their best game of the season but with crucial turnovers, a blocked extra point attempt, and a missed 19yd FG they didn't really give themselves a chance to win.
Charlotte now rolls to 6-2, but they still have to play Burlington at Burlington and host Salisbury at home. Asheville meanwhile is fighting it out for the last place spot and the number one draft pick.
