Wilson 16 at Raleigh 13
Wilson's running game and defense were almost derailed by two poor Derrick Smith passes deep in Raleigh territory. One merely ended a Tobs drive, while the other resulted in a 95yd TD play that got Raleigh back into the game. Raleigh's offense came into this game ranked number 4 in the league and they struggled the entire game to get anything going. It was an interception thrown by Musson that setup the only Tobs touchdown. That's two weeks in a row their offense has struggled to produce and people are wondering what has happened. Ken Halsip and Charles Davey put on a clinic on how a blocker back and running back can work together. Davey has lost the ability to be an offensive threat on his own, but he has turned into a brutal blocking back. Ken Haslip has learned to sit patiently behind Davey till he springs him. It has turned into the biggest offensive threat Wilson has and it completely overwhelmed Raleigh who had shut down Gastonia's offense last week.

Kinston 20 at Winston-Salem 0
A rough welcome for Darrell Sparks who was forced to learn a new system in one weeks time, then face one of the toughest defensive lines in the league. It didn't work out to well for the Twins and Sparks. It did work out well for Kinston who continues to improve week to week and seems to be getting their offense more on track. They aren't blowing teams away with big numbers but Marion Sorenson is hitting a high percentage of passes and not turning the ball over. With John Margolf and Pat Mlot each pitching in four sacks this isn't a bad strategy for a quarterback to take.

Greensboro 26 at Asheville 16
Asheville continues to struggle both offensively and defensively while Arturo Murphy continues to show that he has to be watched. Though he threw 3 interceptions in this game Murphy consistently moved the ball lead by his star wide receiver Gordon Brown. Brown came on the scene last season with big numbers and was thought to be a fluke. This year he's proving that he is one of the best wide receivers in the league. Greensboro also got a solid game from their defense. They were able to put consistent pressure on Erik Waters and contain Kenton Golic restricting the Tourists to only 101yds of net offense.

Charlotte 0 at Gastonia 20
Charlotte has looked pretty unbeatable, especially their defense. The last few weeks their offense has looked much improved especially their running game, but this week Gastonia's defense completely dominated the game and their offense picked and picked and picked at the Charlotte defense until it finally fell apart. After making a big trade to get rid of Darrel Sparks this week and put their season in the hands of Harold Brooks he delivered with a great game, but it was the Pirates' defense that dominated this game completely taking away any hopes of running the ball and amassing 11 sacks. Brooks was only sacked 3 times by the sack happy Clippers and though his line played great a lot of the credit has to go to Brooks for being quick to dump the ball out of bounds rather than take the sack. It is also very important to note the game played by James Carter. He racked up yards play after play keeping pressure off of Brooks and allowing the passing game to take advantage when they could. This was almost a perfect game played by Gastonia. They've had a few games like this so far this season, but have not been consistent. They'll need consistency in the second half if they want to return to the playoffs.
Harold Brooks 16/35 167yds 2TDs
Royce Scott 24/36 272yds 1Int
James Carter 23car/101yds

Salisbury 21 at Wilson 7
The best quarterback in league history, Van Egger, and the best defensive lineman in league history, Lenny Linville, double teamed the sloppy Wilson Tobs for an easy Popes victory. The game initially looked as though it would be close but at the first sign of weakness the Popes offense pounced and the defense followed with cutthroat precision to kill any hope the Tobs held. In less than eight minutes during the second quarter the Popes put a death hold on the Tobs and seemingly the game was over. From there it was just solid Pope defense and offense and a struggling Tobs team that couldn't seem to keep their footing.

Kinston 6 at Durham 3 in OT
If Durham wanted to compete with Charlotte for the wild card spot this season this game against Kinston was a must win. A struggling but good team with a tough defense. These are the kind of teams that can really catch you off guard and mess up your season and that is exactly what happened in this one. Durham had the opportunities to win they needed. They got the kind of play that they expected from James Clark and for the most part they wanted from Charles Kissane, but in the end they blew their opportunities and gave the game away to Kinston. Marion Sorenson had a fantastic game for Kinston as did the Kinston defense.

Greensboro 0 at Charlotte 17
The opening play of this game set the tone that Charlotte wanted when James Iverson slammed Arturo Murphy down popping the ball lose. Greensboro recovered the ball but Murphy knew from that moment that he would not have an easy go of it. The Charlotte defense has been dominant all season and with their offense improving each week they are becoming a fearful opponent. This game was never in question.

Winston-Salem 12 at Asheville 0
Robert Walker was brought in after week 3 to finish out the season and maybe help get a few wins for the Winston-Salem Twins and it only took him two weeks to get their first of the season. It was in fact a very well played game from an offense that has really struggled and a tough game from the defense that secured their first victory. On the other side of the ball it was a tough fall for Asheville and Jack Deloplaine. Deloplaine had made a point of talking about stripping down the offensive plan to improve the results, but the offense struggled to do anything put together only 126 net yards.
