2008 Championship Game Recap 

Burlington takes the opening kickoff and comes out looking good right away.  QB Thaddeus Schlotter hits WR Anthony Palmer for 8yds followed by a 29yd run by HB Greg Caufield to get the Bees down to the Popes' 32yd line.  But there the Bees drive stalls and Ray Miller misses a 41yd FG wide.

Burlington 0 at Salisbury 0  11:16 1st quarter

After a back and forth Salisbury starts with good field position on their own 44yd line.  QB Van Egger hits WR James Riviera for 6yds followed by an 18yd HB David Harley run to the Bees' 31yd line. Three plays later Egger hits TE Jose Wakeman for 19yds and a 1st and goal at the 6yd line.  Burlington holds and Damon Fox kicks a 28yd FG.

Burlington 0 at Salisbury 3  2:29 1st quarter

Burlington is forced to punt and quickly Salisbury is back in Burlington territory.  Egger connects with Wakeman for 12yds to get to the Bees' 29yd line.  Two plays later it's Egger to Wakeman again this time for 13yds to the Burlington 13.  Harley picks up 4yds on a 3rd and 3 to give Salisbury a 1st and goal at the Bees' 1yd line.  Harley takes it in on the next play and Fox hits the extra point.

Burlington 0 at Salisbury 10  11:28 2nd quarter

After a few back and forths Salisbury takes over at their own 34yd line.  On their first play Harley breaks a long run for 42yds down to the Burlington 24.  An Egger pass to WR Steve Campbell gets Salisbury a 1st and goal at the 9yd line.  The Bees again hold but this time Fox misses the short FG wide.

Salisbury comes right back into Burlington territory on their next posession with a 23yd carry from Harley.  Egger then connects with WR Cleveland Jenkins for 22yds and a 1st down at the Burlington 26yd line.  Two plays later Egger connects with Wakeman for a touchdown.  Fox hits the PAT.

Burlington 0 at Salisbury 17  :18 2nd quarter

Burlington takes over with :14 left on their own 19 and shock everyone with a huge play.  Schlotter connects with Palmer for an 81yd touchdown.  Miller hits the PAT to end the half.  Palmer is the player that killed the Popes' dreams last season.

Burlington 7 at Salisbury 17  Halftime

After a few back and forth it's Burlington that makes the first big play when Schlotter connects with TE Brad McHale for a 45yd pickup down to the Popes' 19yd line.  A key Al Smith sack stalls the Burlington drive and Miller hits a 24yd FG.

Burlington 10 at Salisbury 17  3:30 3rd quarter

After a few more back and forths Egger connects with Jenkins for 17yds for a 1st down at the Burlington 39yd line.  Two Harley runs gets them to a first and goal at the Burlington 1.  On his 3rd attempt Harley gets into the endzone, and Fox follows with the PAT.

Burlington 10 at Salisbury 24  11:42 4th quarter

Burlington bounces back on their next posession and with some good passing get down to the Popes' 27yd line.  The drive stalls out at the Popes' 13yd line and Miller kicks a 30yd FG.

Burlington 13 at Salisbury 24  7:03 4th quarter

CB Merv Tice hurts Burlington with his 76yd kickoff return giving Salisbury the ball at the Burlington 14yd line.  He points to Palmer as he leaves the field and the Pope fans feel they have a chance here to put the game away.  The Burlington defense holds tough though and Salisbury has to settle for a 33yd Fox field goal.

Burlington 13 at Salisbury 27  5:02 4th quarter

A sack fest gives Salisbury the ball at the Burlington 28yd line after the Bees have to give the ball up on downs.  Three Harley runs later the Popes are celebrating another touchdown.  Fox hits the PAT.

Burlington 13 at Salisbury 34  1:38 4th quarter

Burlington ends up driving down to the Popes 10yd line, but time runs out and for the first time we have a champion besides Burlington
